Charlie T. Willis

Charlie T. Willis, age 79, Command Sergeant Major E-9 U. S. Army Retired with 28 years service, was born in Stantonville, Tennessee on May 30, 1932 to Lacy T. and Maggie Lavelle Dickey Willis. He proudly served his country honorably in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars having earned several medals among which were the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.



Charlie departed this life on November 18, 2011 in Corinth, Mississippi.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Dorris Willis; a daughter, Christine Lavelle Willis Byrd of Memphis; two sons, Charles Keith Willis of Harmony, North Carolina, Steven Dale Willis of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren, Andrew Christopher Byrd, Rebecca Marie Willis, Karlene Nikole Byrd, Elizabeth Ashlea Willis Tucker, Sasha Nicole Willis, Jonathan Ryan Willis; three great-grandchildren, Braysen Daven Willis, Marley Jane Willis, Samantha Marie Dearden; two sisters, Mary Nell Willis Lewis of Rydal, Georgia, Faye Willis Reeder of Pickwick Dam, Tennessee; three brothers, Aubrey Willis of Ramer, Tennessee, who died the day after Mr. Charlie on November 19, 2011, Bob Willis of Del City, Oklahoma, Terry Willis of Counce, Tennessee. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.



The Willis family requested that any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101-2595 in his memory.



In addition to his parents, Mr. Willis was preceded in death by a sister, Inez Willis Tippins; a brother, Joe Willis. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer was in charge of arrangements.
