Christine Howell, age 87, of Middleton, departed this life Saturday morning, December 3, 2016 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The widow of Bro. James Howell, who died in 2014, she worked as a homemaker and worked on the farm. She was born January 19, 1929 in Hardeman County, daughter of the late Jessie Floyd Howell and Fannie Elizabeth Goff Howell and lived most of her life in the county. She married James Howell on August 26, 1945 and served as a pastor's wife when he began his ministry in 1949. Among her interests were quilting, gardening, and working with her flowers. She was a wonderful baby-sitter, keeping many children throughout the years and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Ann Doles of Bolivar, Geneva Cossar (Mickey) of Hickory Valley, Peggy Howell (Terry) of Middleton and Mary Nell Jackson (Billy) of Middleton; a son, Harold Neal Howell (Janice) of Middleton; a daughter in law, Sue Woodard (John) of Bolivar; five sisters, Thelma Turner of Middleton, Clara Jones of Chapel Hill, Lucille Howell of Bolivar, Linda Bynum of Nashville and Shirley Ann Gowdy of Ramer; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James E. Howell, Jr.; two brothers, Dean and Paul Howell; a sister, Mae Stamey; and a great granddaughter, Karley Howell. Memorial donations in Mrs. Howell's name may be made to the Gideons.
