Clara Nell Yeiser Phillips died peacefully on September 15, 2015, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Ethel Nowlin Yeiser, her husband, Henry C. Phillips, Jr., and her son, Warren Watt Phillips. A native of Waynesboro, Tennessee, she was educated at Virginia Intermont College and Vanderbilt University. She worked as a statistician for Bell Aircraft during World War II and was an educator for thirteen years in Wayne County, Tennessee.
Mrs. Phillips was active in thr First Christian Church and served on the cabinet of the Tennessee Christian Women's Fellowship for many years and was president from 1965 to 1969. She also served in many capacities with the Tennessee Board of Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and the national General Board of the Disciples of Christ. Mrs. Phillips served on many charity boards locally. One of her special interest was public libraries, serving on the Blue Grass Regional Library Board. While living in Dunlap, Tennessee she served on the local and regional board of the Caney Fork Region as president.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by sons, Henry C. Phillips, III (Cathye) and Jay Yeiser Phillips (Latricia), four grandchildren, Holley Phillips Dougherty (Robert), Sarah Phillips Collins (Dax), Henry Clay Phillips, IV (Michelle), Matthew Warren Phillips and five great-grandchildren, Jayson and Emilie Phillips, Maxwell and Juliana Dougherty, Lila Collins and Carson Phillips Burns.
Shackelford Funeral Directors, Waynesboro, Tennessee is serving the family where they will receive friends on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 5 pm to 8 pm and Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 8 am to 10:30 am. Graveside services will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Waynesboro, TN at 11 am.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the Volunteer Hospice nurses and Lee Newton and Ruby Copeland for their loving and tender care of Clara over the past several months.
