Mr. Clarence Vernon Gates, age 80 of Henderson, Tennessee, passed away at his home Thursday morning, September 19, 2019.
Mr. Gates was born in Middleton on Monday, October 3, 1938 to the late Robert E. and Mae Rixie Gates. On Friday, February 4, 1972, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sandra Gates, who survives, and in 1998, they moved to Chester County. He worked at Harmon Automotive in Bolivar for 26 years, and also spent 16 years working for Premier Manufacturing in Henderson. He was Christian in belief and enjoyed bulldozers, overhauling tractors and other heavy machinery. He also had a fondness for beekeeping.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, Clarence is survived by his daughters, Holly Lambert (Billy Melton) of Henderson, and Frances Bass (Roger) of Independence, MS; sons, Keith Gates (April) of Henderson, Greg Hollingsworth of Henderson, Clarence Gates, Jr. of Byhalia, MS, and Howard Gates (Donna) of Coldwater, MS; brother, Eugene Gates of Corinth, MS; sister, Mildred Bates of Selmer; grandchildren, Cheyannah Woofter, Madison Woofter, Isabella Gates, Zachary Gates, Colton Gates, Amy Gates, R. J. Bass, Ridge Bass, Anthony Gates, Dexter Gates and Lee Gates; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Seleta Gates; two brothers, Jewell Gates and Robert Lee Gates; and a sister, Aileen Jacobs.
