Clarence Simmerman

Clarence Simmerman departed this life on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the age of 99 years, 10 months, and 24 days. He was born in Martin County, Indiana on March 5, 1917, the son of the late Francis and Nellie Ray Simmerman. He was united in marriage to Dorthy Roberts October 9, 1937. Clarence and Dorthy moved from Williams, Indiana, in 1960, to West Palm Beach, Florida, and then in 1971 to Jupiter, Florida, and then in 2003 to Adamsville, Tennessee.

Clarence was a straight "A" student throughout his school years and was Valedictorian of his senior class. As a young man, Clarence worked on the family farm in Indiana. Clarence worked in Indiana for 14 years producing and scheduling transport of munitions for the U.S. Navy, which was considered a "critical" job category and included support of WWII efforts. Clarence began work for UTC Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach as a dimensional inspector; He worked for them until retirement. After his retirement he served as a volunteer dispatcher and site supervisor for the Martin County Sheriff's Department at its Jupiter, Florida substation until his move to Tennessee. He was a member of the Mason Blue Lodge of Bedford, Indiana. Clarence enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much.

He is survived by his wife of 79 years, Dorthy Roberts Simmerman of Adamsville, Tennessee; son, Jerry Simmerman and wife, Marcia of Adamsville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Claris Bartlett and husband Earl of Brownsboro, Alabama and Joy Varden and husband Scott of Huntsville, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Matthew Robinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Christi Marie Mahaffey of Huntsville, Alabama, Blake Bartlett and Jacob Bartlett, both of Brownsboro, Alabama, and Sarah Varden of Huntsville, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie Simmerman; and brothers, Ernest and Opal Simmerman.
