Mr. Pulliam died Monday afternoon, October 31, 2011 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
The widower of Alma Jean Turner Pulliam, who died May 4, 1999, they were married nearly 43 years. He was born in Hickory Valley on December 23, 1930 to Claude Sr, and Nellie Mae Vandiver Pulliam. A truck driver and farmer, he drove for Roadway and retired December 26, 1992. Mr. Pulliam was stationed in Germany while he served in the Army. He was active in the affairs of West Memorial Cemetery and his community, loved his daughters, was hard working, compassionate, ready to help anyone, and he loved rabbit and squirrel hunting. He lived in Memphis from 1956 to 1972 when he moved back to Hardeman County.
Among those who survive him are his 3 daughters, Penelope Jean "Penny" Chandler of Weatherford, TX, Tanyan Jo Bobo of Ripley, TN, and Claudia Dean "Candy" Pulliam of Jackson, TN; 2 sisters, Christeve Hensley and Eva Mae Derrick both of Saulsbury, TN; 6 grandchildren, Molly Haislip, James Byrum, Jennifer Phillips, Jonathon Byrum, Amanda Maney and Mary Chandler; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son , James Louie "Bubba" Phillips.
