CLEO CONNOR
Henderson: Cleo Eells Connor, age 91 died Saturday afternoon April 30, 2016 at Henderson Healthcare and Rehab.
Mrs. Connor was born and reared in Lawrenceburg, TN, the daughter of the late Elmer J. and Jennie Smith Eells. She attended school in Lawrenceburg. Mrs. Connor met and married Melburn Connor in 1941. They made their home in the Glendale Community of Chester County for most of their married life, where they row cropped and operated a dairy farm.
She worked at Salant & Salant and the garment factory at Scotts Hill, as well as the Oak Ridge ammunition plant and Milan Arsenal during World War II.
Mrs. Connor taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at Mr. Pleasant Methodist Church where she was a member for many years.
She and Mr. Connor were avid travelers after their retirement, touring the U.S. and parts of Europe.
She is survived by one daughter, Glenda Connor Jewell of Henderson, and a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Crouthers of Henderson. She leaves four grandchildren: Steven Connor (Brianne) of Nashville, Mary Beth Miller (Chris) of Henderson, Amber Jewell Guthrie of Henderson, and Art Jewell of Jackson. She also leaves three great-granddaughters; Mary Kathryn Miller, Emma Grace Miller, and Amelia Jewell Guthrie.
Mrs. Connor was preceded in death by her husband, Melburn, in 2009; her son, Roger Connor, in 1997; and her son-in-law, Bill Jewell, in 2016. She was also preceded in death by four brothers; Earl Eells, Robert Eells, John Eells, and Clifford Eells and two sisters; Esther Brewer and Effie Weaver.
Visitation will be at Shackelford Funeral Home (Casey Chapel) in Henderson on Monday, May 2 from 5-9 PM and Tuesday from 12 PM until funeral time. Services will be Tuesday, May 3 at 2 PM with Charlie Crouthers and Johnny Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church cemetery.
