BUDDY PARSONS

Henderson, TN: Clovis D. "Buddy" Parsons, age 90, died early Thursday morning, March 30, 2023, at his home in Henderson, TN.

He was born July 2, 1932, in McNairy County and grew up in McNairy, Tipton and Chester County, the son of the late William Preston and Martha Campbell Parsons.

He had two years of courses in Business Management from the International Correspondence School. At the age of 21, he entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served at Fort Sill, OK for two years and then served in the Tennessee National Guard, the Louisiana Guard and then the Mississippi Guard and finally the Army Reserves with the 412th Engineering Command of the US Army Corps of Engineers for a total of 33 1/2 years retiring as Sergeant Major in 1987.

He went to work for Sears in Memphis where he spent 10 years before transferring to Jackson, TN for a time, then in Baton Rouge, LA then finally to Jackson, MS where he retired. During his 33 1/2-year career with Sears he worked as Parts Manager, Big Ticket Sales and Store Manager.

He moved to Henderson in 1989 and owned and operated Handy Center Hardware.

He was active in the Chester County Lions Club for many years (serving as Tail Twister for many years) and had received the distinguished Melvin Jones Award. He was also an active member of the Henderson Church of Christ.

He is survived by his sons, David Parsons (Becky) of Bartlett, TN and Kenneth "Kenny" Parsons (Julie) of Pensacola, FL; daughter, Michelle Taylor (David) of Lakeland, TN; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren with one on the way; and by his life-long love and companion, Bobbie Sue Newman of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Parsons, Vernon Parsons, and three half brothers, Charles Parsons, Jack Parsons, and Lester Parsons; six sisters, Martha Louise Rowland, Evelyn Brigman, Reathal Rowland, Geneva Newman, Geraldine Curtis, Lona Ree Simpson, and four half-sisters, Frona Cox, Donna Ervin, Dosie Phyier, and Dora Cox.

Buddy was and his family is eternally grateful for the compassion and love given by his caregivers Lori Thomas, Georgia Finch, Johnnie Leopard, Rita Wilson, Marissa Hunt and Carolyn Johnson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday April 1, 2023, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Cave Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue Chapel from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time Saturday.
