CLYDE TALBOTT
Pinson, TN: William Clyde Talbott, age 97, passed away November 11, 2017 at Regency Retirement Village in Jackson.
He was born March 21, 1920, in the five Points Community of Madison County, the son of the late William Perry and Zula Woodruff Talbott. He graduated from Pinson High School in 1938 and entered the United States Army Air Force, serving in the European Theatre of Operations and was in the Elite Guard for General Eisenhower. He served in Germany and received a Purple Heart Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. He began work for TVA and worked as an electrician and lineman for forty-one years. While working for TVA near Iuka, MS in 1954 Mr. Talbott rescued a man from a TVA tower and resuscitated him, receiving the Presidential Medal for saving a human life from the National Safety Council.
He married Cerneil Williamson in 1962 and they made their home near Five Points. While with his family at Pickwick State Park in 1976, he rescued an eight year old girl from drowning. The TVA honored him with the Meritorious Service Award in recognition for assistance in saving the life of another.
After his retirement from TVA he worked in maintenance and electrical work including, Western Sizzlin South and White’s Electrical.
He was a member of the Big Springs United Methodist Church.
Mr. Talbott is survived by a son, Perry Talbott and wife Tammy of Jackson; two daughters, Dena Lane and husband John of Jackson and Millie Talbott of Big Sandy; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Cerneil Williamson Talbott in 2001 a son, Tommy Talbott in 2014, a granddaughter, Brittany Christie and a sister, Ada Louise Pierce.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dyer officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Big Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday.
