November 29, 1948 — October 10, 2017

Connie Muriel Smith Stephens was born November 29, 1948. She departed this life to be with family in Heaven on October 10, 2017. She was the daughter of Ila B. Smith and Dorothy Singleton Smith, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Milledgeville United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer for many years. She also attended the Church of the Nazarene of Savannah.

She was a graduate of Adamsville High School and continued her education at the Crump Technology School. She was employed at the McNairy County General Hospital and Duren Supply in Adamsville before she began her career working as Deputy Clerk for 13 years, before becoming Hardin County Clerk in 1990. She was very dedicated to her job and was elected "Court Clerk of the Year" for the State of Tennessee in 2006. She was also very active in the community and served as Treasurer of the American Heart Association for over a decade.

She was married to her soulmate, Bruce Stephens, on November 25, 1987, who preceded her in death. Besides her parents and husband, her brother, Jerry Neal Smith, also preceded her in death in 2009.

She is survived by her nieces, Lisa Ozier and husband Sammy of Milledgeville, Amy Smith of Milledgeville, one nephew, Perry Neal Smith and wife Allison of Milledgeville. Great Nieces and Nephews, Sara Clayton and husband Josh, of Jacks Creek, Dylan Yager of Milledgeville and David Yager, Jr. of Adamsville, Hunter Dickey, Calvin, Will and Sybil Smith of Milledgeville and one great-great niece, Alaina Clayton of Jacks Creek. Even though Connie didn't have children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews as her own and always called them "Her Babies". Connie had many friends and co-workers she considered as her family. She was a faithful Christian woman who had a love for everyone, a kind heart and a smile. She will be greatly missed by all but know that she is now out of pain and home with Jesus, her beloved Bruce and her family in Heaven.
