Coolidge Plunk, age 91, passed to his heavenly home on November 3, 2015. Born July 17, 1924 to James Melzer Plunk and Flousia Jewell Hendrix, he lived his whole life in the Finger community and was lovingly known by family and friends as "Big Daddy."
A member of Lane's Chapel Church, he farmed his first crop at the age of 15 and also worked at the cotton gin and in the logging trade. He retired from Milan Arsenal after working as a materials handler for 17 years. Mr. Plunk enjoyed raising watermelons and hunting rabbits, but his greatest pleasure was found in spending time with family and friends, whom he loved very much.
Mr. Plunk married the love of his life, Ollie Muerl Amerson, on April 17, 1943. Muerl preceded him in death on October 16, 1988, following 45 years of marriage.
Mr. Plunk is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Hipps and husband Don of Bethel Springs, TN and Gail Lipford and husband Don of Finger, TN; a son, Ricky Plunk of Finger, TN; seven grandchildren: Lecia Howell, Melissa (Mitzi) Harris and husband Tracy, Mike Lipford and wife Johnnie (Doodle), Matthew Lipford, Melanie Stoll and husband Nathan, Miranda Hurst and husband Jeremy, Summer Willis and husband Matt; 18 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Gracie Webster of Selmer, TN; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Plunk was preceded in death by a sister, Oneida Peagler; a brother, Atlas Plunk; and an infant brother, Allen Plunk.
