Coy H. Gillis

Mr. Coy Gillis departed this life on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 95 Years, 17 Days. He was born January 28, 1922 in Wayne County, TN, the son of the late Jimmie T. and Susan Rich Gillis. In addition to his parents, Mr. Coy was preceded in death by son, James Allen Gillis; granddaughter, Veronica Foss; brothers, Ira and James Gillis; sisters, Irene Gillis, Lora Bevis and Iva Nora Bratton.

He married Edith Berry on June 23, 1943 and she preceded him in death on May 26, 2010.

Mr. Coy, a farmer and retiree of Lincoln Brass, served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was a member of the Free Church of God .

Survivors, son, J.P. Gillis of Savannah, TN and daughter, Linda Thompson of Lawrenceburg, TN; 3 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laveda Murphy and Elvesta Murphy both of Collinwood, TN and several nieces and nephews

Services will be Friday, February 17, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Greg Thompson and J.P. Gillis officiating. Burial will follow in Cromwell Crossroads Cemetery,Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Boyce Gillis, Will Ritter, Christopher Gorbatoff, Alex Murphy, Darrell Murphy, Jerry Murphy, Sonny Bratton and Charlie Kephart.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 pm and Friday, February 17, 2017 from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
