Criss E. Murphy

Criss E. Murphy was born on July 2, 1936 in Waterloo, Alabama, the son of the late Daniel Tucker and Leona White Murphy.

On June 16, 2009, he was united in marriage to Jane Holt, who survives.

Mr. Murphy served as a traveling evangelist and was a member of Lord Jesus Christ Church. He enjoyed preaching, beginning at the age of 12 and continuing until his death. He also liked going fishing, hunting, woodworking, building furniture, watching hummingbirds, and going to see the Eagle at Pickwick Dam, Tennessee. Everything Criss did throughout his life was done with excellence.

Criss E. Murphy departed this life on August 16, 2023 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 14 days. 

He is survived by his wife, Jane Murphy of Counce, Tennessee; son, Mike Murphy of Indiana; daughters, Vonda Pierce and her husband Brian of Celina, Tennessee, Martha Brennekre and her husband Mark of Hilham, Tennessee, Kathy Trejo of Moss, Tennessee, Roxanne Schultz and her husband Chuck of Florida, and Theresa Humes of Baxter, Tennessee; brother, Harold Murphy of Tiptonville, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren; grandson, Jeshua James Tullis of Indiana; Daniel Wayne Hoyer of Chicago, Illinois who Criss thought of as a grandson; 38 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and best friend and caregiver, Janet Kay Murphy of Counce, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Criss was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby C. Murphy; sisters, Gay Nell Murphy and Requetta Murphy; and granddaughter, Alecia R. Jackson-Tullis.
