Daniel Jimmy Turner Sr., a devoted family man and skilled mechanic and machinist, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Florence, Alabama. Born on February 6, 1943, in Metter, Georgia, Daniel lived a life marked by dedication—to his work, his family, and his passions.
A proud veteran, Daniel served honorably in the United States Army, exemplifying a commitment to his country that was a foundation of his character. Following his military service, he contributed significantly to his community through his career with the Orange Juice packing industry, where he worked as both a mechanic and machinist. His expertise and work ethic left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to work alongside him.
Daniel was a man who cherished his time with family above all else. His greatest joy came from moments spent with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons William Anthony Turner of Collinwood, Tennessee; Daniel Jimmy Turner Jr. of Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida; Keith Wittman of Mt. Dora, Florida; and Michael Wittman of Grand Island, Florida. His loving sisters Annette Turner Babcock of McClur, Ohio, and Jane Turner Billette with her husband Roger of Apopka, Florida, also survive him. Daniel’s legacy of love extends through fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the warmth and strength he instilled in them.
His personal interests reflected a vibrant and multifaceted spirit. A dedicated sports fan, Daniel especially enjoyed watching the Miami Dolphins, where his enthusiasm for the game was infectious. He found solace and satisfaction in fishing and welding, and in his younger years, he delighted in tinkering with bikes—activities that highlighted his hands-on nature and intricate skills.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Carol Smith Turner; his parents, Carlos Dale Turner and Mary Alice Monroe Turner; and his siblings Juanita Turner, Geneva Herring, Claude Turner, Colon Turner, Clyde Turner, and Jeanette Huchingson. Their memories live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Daniel Jimmy Turner Sr.'s life was a tapestry of loyal service, skilled craftsmanship, and unconditional familial love. He leaves behind a legacy forged in steadfast dedication and boundless affection. His family and all who were fortunate enough to know him will remember his generous spirit and the profound impact he made on their lives.
