Danny Ray Holt

Danny Ray Holt, 62, of Savannah, died Tuesday, August 9. He is survived by his wife, Martha Lynn Holt, daughter Melody Irene Holt, son Daniel Ray Holt, and daughter-in-law Sarah Holt.

Danny was born December 13, 1953, in Gillis Mills community. His parents were the late Ray and Edith Franks Holt. After his father died, Danny and his mother lived on the farm of her parents, Neal and Ada Franks. Danny graduated in 1971 from Hardin County High School and worked first at Hassell and Hughes and later Tennessee Pacific in Savannah, then rebuilt pianos. For most of his working career, he was self-employed and led and worked at Holt's Lawn Service, mowing and landscaping in Hardin County and surrounding areas. In 1983, he married Martha Lynn Holt. They lived in Selmer, then for many years in Burnt Church where they had two children he was so proud of, Melody Irene Holt and Daniel Ray Holt, then moved back to Gillis Mills. Danny was semi-retired after several health issues, including a kidney transplant in 2012. He always kept a positive outlook no matter what he faced. The last Bible verse he wrote during a sermon was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

He was a member of Abrams Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a good man who loved the Lord, loved his family and friends, and never met a stranger. He loved music and led The Holt Family bluegrass and bluegrass gospel band. He also loved woodworking, working in his garden, and giving away produce to others. He was a hard worker, a faithful friend, and the epitome of a family man. He will be sorely missed, but is now singing with the Lord.
