DANNY MAYS

Pinson, TN: Danny Joe Mays age 75, passed away January 5, 2024, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

He was born in Bolivar, TN and grew up in the Deanburg Community and Memphis, TN, the son of the late Kenneth Stewart Mays and Mary Elizabeth Maroney Mays. He graduated from Frayser High School in Memphis. He attended Memphis State and entered the U.S. Army and served in Kaiserslautern, Germany in a large medical hospital. The army had sent Michael to Vietnam and would not allow Danny to serve they’re at the same time.

He worked for International Harvester a few years prior to his army service.

After the service he moved to Columbus, GA in 1981 and worked at Columbus Foundries in Quality Control Management. He moved back to Deanburg after her retried.

He was a big sports fan, Tennessee Football, University of Memphis Basketball and Atlanta Braves Baseball.

He was a member of the Deanburg Baptist Church.

Mr. Mays is survived by two sons, Christopher Alan Mays of Loganville, GA and Jason Scott Mays of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren, Josh Jasper, Alexander Mays, Milana Mays and Samantha Mays; and two sisters, Sandra Landers and Patricia Rose both of Deanburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Stewart Mays.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 12^th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Jerry Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Deanburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday.
