David Newton Burgess

David Newton Burgess of Waynesboro, TN was born September 15, 1937 in Cornersville, TN, the son of the late Claude Lee and Ina Lou Poarch Burgess. He was united in marriage to Judy Brewer on June 18, 1973.

Mr. Burgess was a retired furniture repairman and deliveryman for Coble Furniture Center in Lewisburg, TN and had worked with Dairyman, Inc. in Lewisburg, TN and Genesco Shoe Manufacturing in Franklin, TN.

Mr. Burgess served in the United States Army and was a member of the Wayne Furnace Church of Christ in Waynesboro, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Brewer Burgess of Waynesboro, TN; sons, Kevin Burgess of Waynesboro, TN and Michael and Kenneth Burgess both of Lewisburg, TN; daughters, Heather Breeden of Waynesboro, TN, Melissa Dana of Louisville, KY and Kimberly Gault of Petersburg, TN; a brother, Edward Burgess of Lewisburg, TN; 16 Grandchildren, 13 Great- Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Burgess and a sister, Margaret Burgess Gillam.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Cary Crews officiating. Graveside services with military rites will follow at 1:30 pm in the Sunset Park Cemetery, Lewisburg, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 8 am until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Butch Nutt, Carly Cook, Timothy Barber, John Venable, Brian Loy, and Alvin Creecy. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Morris, Randal Gobble, Ben Williams, and Lance Nutt.
