David E. Evans, a beloved member of the Lawton community, passed away peacefully at his home on July 18, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on April 19, 1942, in McNairy County, TN, David dedicated his life to his family, his career, and his neighbors.
David worked diligently for approximately 30 years as a cutting room foreman and pattern maker for Harwood Manufacturing and Automotive Fabrics before retiring. Following his retirement, he and his son established E & E Trucking, a partnership that reflected David's work ethic and commitment to family.
David's education began in Stantonville, TN, where he laid the foundation for his lifetime of learning and trade skills. Not only was he industrious in his professional life, David was also a jack-of-all-trades, possessing the ability to fix or do just about anything. His hobbies and interests included tinkering with old cars, attending car shows, doing yardwork for himself and others, and collecting sewing machines and lawnmowers. His favorite activity, however, was undoubtedly spending cherished moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
In addition to his work and family, David dedicated himself to serving his community and those who lived there. He was a long-time member of the Lawton Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as long as he was able. His commitment extended to the Lawton Civic Center Board, where he helped oversee the construction of the Center and contributed his time and expertise to its growth and development for many years. David was a faithful member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church.
David is survived by his loving spouse of 63 years, Peggy Evans; his son, David Lynn Evans and daughter-in-law Leigh; and his daughter, Penny Carroll and son-in-law Tracey, all of Selmer, TN. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Blake Carroll and wife Channing and Megan Evans Moore and husband Michael, all of Selmer, TN, and Brittany Kelley and husband Jesse of Jackson, TN. His great-grandchildren, Greenlee Carroll, Palmer Carroll, and Brooks Kelley, will carry forward his legacy of love and service. David is also survived by his sisters, Darlene Foster of Humboldt, TN and Donna Renee Gill of Maryville, TN, along with many extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Paul Evans and Mildred Irene Taylor Evans Rodgers, and his brother, Dale Evans.
The legacy of David E. Evans will live on through the countless lives he touched.
