David Van Linam, 75, of Savannah, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Born on May 1, 1951, in Savannah, Tennessee, David lived a life marked by service, faith, laughter, and love for his family. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975 before dedicating 38 years of service to Hardin County as a 911 dispatcher, helping countless people in times of need.
David was a faithful member of Barnhill Methodist Church for more than fifty years, where he served as song leader and shared his love of music with his church family. His faith was evident not only in his church service but in the way he cared for others, always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed.
On April 7, 1972, David married the love of his life, Mary Lynette Linam. Their 54-year marriage began after they met at the Brown Derby in Savannah and became a beautiful testimony of devotion, partnership, and family.
David was known for his warm smile, generous spirit, and unforgettable sense of humor. Whether he was cheering for the Tennessee Volunteers, feeding his birds, mowing a yard, enjoying a meal with family, or making people laugh with one of his favorite expressions—"You've got to be kidding me," "Gracious," "Dag gum it," or "That's what I'm talking about"—he brought joy wherever he went.
Of all the roles he held in life, none meant more to him than being "Gaddy” and also known as Grandaddy Walker Linam by Landon Walker Linam. He loved his grandchildren dearly and especially enjoyed watching them play ball. His family treasures the countless memories, laughs, and thumbs-up signs that became his trademark. His kindness, determination, and loving heart touched many lives and will not be forgotten.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and L. Wayne Linam, and his brothers, Larry Wayne Linam and Noel Linam.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lynette Linam; his daughter, Stephanie Barrier and her husband, Kevin; his son, L. Wesley Linam and his wife, Bree; his grandchildren, Neely Barrier, Nadalee Barrier, Landon Walker Linam, Michael Guerra, Bentley Goelze, and Parker Goelze; and his brothers, Eddie Linam, Don Linam, and Charles Linam.
The family finds comfort in knowing that the man who spent a lifetime serving others leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, generosity, and love. For those who knew David, it is easy to picture him now with the same smile, the same sense of humor, and one final thumbs-up.
