DAVID MCKINNIE
Medon, TN: David Lynn McKinnie, age 70, passed away December 16, 2023, at Tri Star Centennial Medical Center, from heart failure.
He was born July 28, 1953, in Bolivar, TN, the son of the late J.D. and Birdie Pearl Kiestler McKinnie. He grew up in the Hebron Community of Hardeman County and was a 1971 graduate of Bolivar Central High School.
He married Cathy Knipper on January 24, 1975, and they made their home in Chester County, TN.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
He managed and worked as a mechanic for Citgo in Middleton from 1975 until 1978, then at the Lion Station in Henderson from 1978 until 1986. In 1986 he began working for the Bolivar Post Office as mail carrier and window clerk, retiring in 2012.
He loved working with kids and was very active in the Dixie Youth Baseball, basketball, and high school and college football.
Mr. McKinnie is survived by his wife, Cathy Colleen Knipper McKinnie of Medon, TN; two sons, Jake McKinnie (Jennifer) of Knoxville, and Clay McKinnie (Caitlyn) of Bells, TN; three grandchildren, Aubrey, Mason and Greyson McKinnie; two brothers, Dale McKinnie of Middleton and Sammy McKinnie of Whiteville, TN and four sisters, Glenda Dampier of Jasper, FL, Brenda Hazelwood (Gary) of Whiteville, Rita Kirk (Billy) of Middleton and Gail McKinnie of Middleton; a brother and sister-in law, Jerry and Nan Knipper of Henderson and a great aunt, Laveda Kiestler of Humboldt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy McKinnie.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 20th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Robert Greene and Jake McKinnie officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday.
