David P. "Chug" Willoughby

October 16, 1943 — May 22, 2026

David P. Willoughby was born on October 16th, 1943, to Lindsey and Blanche Lackey Willoughby passed peacefully at his home on May 22nd, 2026, at the age of 82 years 7 months 6 days. David proudly served his country in the United States Army. He went on to build a long and respected career on the river, working as a towboat captain for many years. Prior to his retirement, he also served as a port captain for two different companies, where his leadership and experience were highly valued. Beyond his career, David had a deep love for the land. He enjoyed raising cattle and had a deep passion for farming. He was a member of Hollands Creek Church. David is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Myra, his son Chet, his brother Jimmy Willoughby (Joyce), his brother-in-law Mickey Wilkerson (Vicki) as well as several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Jane Frazier, his brother Charles Willoughby, his brother Joe Willoughby and his brother Bobby Willoughby. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vicki Wilkerson and Legacy Hospice for the loving care and support they provided. A funeral service for David will be held at Shackelford’s Funeral Home on May 26th, 2026, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral. David will be remembered for his hard work, his dedication to his family and his love for the simple life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
