DEE STEWART
Henderson, TN: Dee Stewart age 100 passed away November 7, 2018 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born February 2, 1918 in Vanndale, AR the son of the late Lonnie and Emma Druscilla Sims Stewart. He joined the Army Air Corps in the late 1930’s. He attended the Memphis Aeronautical School for training. He married Mary Nell Gunnin in 1958. She passed away in February 1977. He worked as an engineer for Rollin Wilson Company in Memphis for fifty years and while there he invented the Fiberglass Electric Fence Post. He also became a licensed pilot and owned his own Cessna 140.
He married Mary Joyce Murley Brown in 1985 and they made their home in Henderson.
He was ordained as a Deacon at age 18, in a Baptist Church in Memphis and he was a music minister from the age 15. He served as music minister at Shelby Forest Baptist Church from 1965 – 1982.
In Henderson, he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, song leader and Bible Class Teacher.
He enjoyed tinkering in mechanics and working in his shop. He was an avid reader of Western and John Grisham Novels.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Mary Joyce Murley Stewart of Henderson; a son, Chris Stewart (Connie) of Hartselle, AL; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Nell Gunnin Stewart and brothers, Brownlow Stewart, Theodore Stewart, Ira Stewart, Ray Stewart and Lee Stewart and sisters, Myra Denman and Eunice Goddard.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church with David Tull and Ron Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday and from 12:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday at the church.
