DON ELLIS
Henderson, TN: Don Eulis Ellis, age 69 passed away early Sunday morning, October 9, 2011 at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, due to injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident on Sunday, July 17, 2011, just east of Milledgeville, TN.
Don was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Eulis and Maggie Newsome Ellis. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1959 and attended Freed Hardeman College for two years. He was elected seven consecutive four year terms beginning in 1966 as Chester County Register of Deeds and held that position for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the West Tennessee Register’s Association, Tennessee Register’s Association and County Officials Association of Tennessee (C.O.A.T.). He was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
He was owner and operator of Colonel Don Ellis Auction Company, serving Chester and surrounding Counties for many years holding estate auctions. He also operated Ellis Bookkeeping and Tax Service.
Don was a member of the Tennessee National Guard and retired as a specialist E-5 in the cook division, after 20 years of service.
Don is survived by a sister; Cornelia Ellis Sparks and her husband, Clarence of Lake Cormorant, MS and two nieces, Kim Wallis of Lake Cormorant, MS and Kara Shreeves of Olive Branch, MS.
