Donald Franklin "Don" Smith, born September 15, 1947, in Chester County, TN, was the beloved son of the late Manuel and Elvie Evelyn Porter Smith. Don passed away on June 20, 2026, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the age of 78.
Don's life was marked by his dedication and skills as a carpenter, a career he cherished for over 20 years, leaving a tangible legacy in both residential and commercial construction. He was a man of vibrant interests, finding joy in NASCAR, the intensity of boxing, and the camaraderie of playing dominos. His community was enriched by his involvement and membership with the Selmer Moose Lodge #1321.
Proudly serving his country, Don was a United States Army veteran. His journey took him from basic training at Ft. Benning, GA, to honing his skills as a helicopter mechanic at Ft. Rucker, AL, and then to Nuremberg, Germany.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Robinson, of Nesbit, MS; his brother, Rickey Smith and wife Dotty of Belton, SC; his sister, Shelia Cagle and husband Bobby of Bethel Springs, TN. His legacy lives on in his cherished grandchildren, Haven Hildenbrand and husband Aaron, and Logan Massey, all of Tupelo, MS, along with his four great-grandchildren, Lydia, Mila, Hardin, and Haynes. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
