Dorothy Mae Cherry was born in Savannah, Tennessee on November 2, 1913 the third child to Pate and Mary Hopson. She departed this life on Monday, March 28, 2011 at her home. She was preceded in death by: both parents; her husband, Monroe A. Cherry; three children, Peggy Mariah, Forrest Eugene and Monroe Ellis Cherry; two brothers Ellis and James Hopson.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Saint Mark Baptist Church. She completed her high school education at Rosenwald School. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Monroe Allen Cherry and to this union five children were born. Mrs. Cherry retired from Hardin County General Hospital on March 27, 1976. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her love of company in her home, the adventure of her many travels, and the special family recipes she prepared with love.
Mrs. Cherry leaves a legacy of love to: two daughters, Fannie B. Cherry of Savannah, Tennessee and Mary C. (Jerry) Steele of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Stanley Cherry of Toledo, Ohio, Dorcus Cherry, Teresa (Ken) Reid, Barbara Cherry, Linda Cherry of Atlanta, Georgia, Kristi (Shane) Steele of Sterling, Virginia, Jacqueline Cherry of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Monroe E. (Lois) Cherry, Jr. of Savannah, Tennessee; thirteen (13) great grandchildren and three (3) great-great grandchildren; five special and devoted nieces, Christine Porter of Crown Point, Indiana, Mary B. Johnson of Toledo, Ohio, Margaret Haymon, Peggy Moore and Donnie Flournoy all of Savannah, Tennessee, along with a host of cousins, relatives and friends that loves her dearly. A special thanks to: Linda Burns, Mary Griffin, and Chaney Winters for all your love, help and concern over the years.
