Dorothy M. Dowdy, 85, of Whiteville, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.
The widow of Otis L. Dowdy, who died October 18, 1989, she was an owner and operator of Whiteville Cleaners for 43 years with her husband. She was born July 26, 1924 in Shelby County to the late Walter Payton Richmond and Lilly Irene Snider Richmond. She moved to Whiteville in 1946 and was a member of Whiteville First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerry L. Dowdy of Whiteville; a sister Laverne Boren of Memphis; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, who she married July 23, 1942, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Dowdy; and a brother, Gus Richmond.
