Obituary

Dorothy Jean Smith Moore, a woman of deep faith, gentle spirit, and profound devotion to her family, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love and service. Born on New Year's Eve in 1936 in McNairy County, Tennessee, she was the beloved daughter of the late James Franklin Smith and Monnie Eron Gillham Smith. On November 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ray Theodore Moore, beginning a blessed union of over 53 years until his passing on March 30, 2007. Professionally, Dorothy was a dedicated employee of Garan Inc. in Adamsville, Tennessee, where she worked faithfully until her retirement.

A devoted member of Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church, Dorothy found immense joy in God's creation. She could often be found lovingly tending to her vibrant flowers or spending peaceful moments swinging on her porch, quietly reflecting on His many blessings. Above all else, she treasured the time she spent with her family, cherishing every gathering, conversation, and memory made with those she loved. Dorothy also faithfully served her community through the Presbyterian Women's Organization (PWO), consistently demonstrating Christ's love through her innate kindness, compassion, and true servant's heart. Her unwavering faith guided her steps daily and inspired everyone who knew her, leaving an enduring impact on her community.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, James Franklin and Monnie Smith; her beloved husband, Ray T. Moore; and her three brothers, James Ray Smith, Tracy Carthell Smith, and Billy David Smith.

Her remarkable legacy of love, family, and service to the Lord continues through her surviving family. She is survived by her four children: son Tommy Moore and wife Frankie of Adamsville, TN; daughter Cathy Prather and husband Lynn of Lawton, TN; son Tedford Moore and wife Stacey of Finger, TN; and son Eddie Moore and wife Tammy of Stantonville, TN. She also leaves behind her 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who were the absolute pride and joy of her life. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you and special recognition to her longtime caregiver, Patsy Rickman, for her exceptional care, companionship, and devotion to Dorothy.
