Dorothy Baxter Rainey

Dorothy Ellen Baxter Rainey departed this life on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the age of 102 years, 4 months, 13 days. She was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on February 11, 1913, the daughter of the late James David and Lella Mae Grimes Baxter. On September 10, 1928, she was united in marriage to Jesse Gilbert Rainey, who preceded her in death on March 13, 1991.

Dorothy was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Crossroads Union Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Rainey Simmons of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kim Williams and husband, Larry, Pam Gray and husband, Doug, Kristi Williams, Stacy DeBerry and husband, Lane, and Michaela McMahon; great grandchildren, Trae Dickson, Ashley Williams, Jenny Lind Iturba, Carly Gray, Josh Gray, Beth Gray, Jesse Sweat, Cherry Beth Williams, Hayden DeBerry, Lane DeBerry,Jr., and Morgan DeBerry; eight great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her children, Nell Rainey, Charles Rainey, and Linda Rainey McMahon; son in law, W.H. Simmons; siblings, Laura Baxter, Robert Baxter, Mildred Doran, J.D. Baxter, and Mary Lou Evans.
