Dorothy Ray

Dorothy Ray departed this life on September 23, 2025 at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 14 days. She was born in Perry County, Tennessee on January 9, 1936, the daughter of the late Ocie Creasy Powell. On November 25, 1952, she was united in marriage to Joe Ray, who preceded her in death on August 4, 2019. This union lasted 66 years.

Dorothy was an excellent seamstress. She worked for Savannah Manufacturing sewing and later at a retail store, Money-Saver.

After retiring, she and Joe enjoyed traveling to Pigeon Forge and Destin, Florida every year.

She was a member of Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed working in the candy shop at the annual bazaar and helping with the fish frys for the youth group.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Ricky Lee Ray and his wife Jill and Jo Ann Ray Wesson, all of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Sonya Tacker (Brandon) of Savannah, Tennessee, Garrard Wesson of Biddeford, Maine, Matthew Wesson (Lauren) of Savannah, Tennessee, and Amanda Rollings of Winnie, Texas; eight great grandchildren; brother, Larry Powell (Vicki); sister in law, Betty Lou Ray; two nieces; and one nephew.

Along with her husband and mother, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son in law, Jimmy Wesson; brother in law, Bobby Ray; great grandchild, Chase Tacker; and niece, Amy Jerrolds.
