Mrs. Dorothy Stewart Williams, age 83 of Bolivar, formerly of Memphis, died Thursday morning, January 21, 2016 in her home.
She was the wife of Dr. James R. Williams, who preceded her in death in 2003.
Dorothy was born on October 3, 1932 in Middleton, TN. She was the daughter of the late W.D. and Athalia McBride Stewart. She grew up in Middleton, raised her family in Memphis, and retired in Bolivar.
Dorothy worked for South Central Bell Telephone Co. for 30 plus years. She volunteered her time with Gideons International Auxiliary, Christian Chiropractic Association, and Hardeman Co. Baptist Association Disaster Relief. She was a member of Dixie Hills Baptist Church, where she loved to serve. She was also an avid gardener.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Christine Veteto, and husband Dirk, of Jackson, and Mary Yates, and husband Tim, of Bolivar; six grandchildren, James Veteto, Glenna Marshall, Lauren Wood, Kenton Yates, Aaron Yates and Jeremy Yates; four great-grandchildren, Avery Veteto, Gavin Veteto, Isaiah Marshall, and Ian Marshall; and six siblings, J.D. Stewart of Middleton, Mackye Hosse of Bartlett, Mary Elizabeth Vincent of Bolivar, Faye Gullett of Millington, Jeanette Harrell of Walnut, MS, and Brenda James of Baldwyn, MS.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Delbert Stewart; and four sisters, Glenda Young, Vivian Geer, Christine Stewart, and Verlon Baker.
