Dr. Stacey Lane Evans Markham
1985 – 2025
Dr. Stacey Lane Evans, 40, passed away on August 10, 2025.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Stacey spent her childhood on the Ames Plantation, where she developed a deep appreciation for family, community, and the beauty of the natural world. She recently made her home in St. Louis, Missouri, with her beloved husband, Matthew Markham. She is the cherished daughter of Jamie and Dee Evans.
Stacey’s family extended far beyond her husband and parents. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law Roger and Sue Markham, her sisters-in-law Jo Markham and Kelsey Pope and their families in Washington state were a beloved part of her family. As were her extended family (aunts uncles and cousins in Wisconsin, Illinois, Massachusetts, Arkansas and Tennessee). And then there was her “Ames Family”. All of which played a pivotal role in Stacey’s life.
Stacey devoted her life to caring for children through the practice of medicine. After earning her medical degree in pediatrics from the University of Tennessee, she served for ten years as a pediatric hospitalist at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where her compassion and dedication touched countless young lives. In January 2025, she began a new chapter as an assistant professor of pediatrics at St. Louis University Children’s Hospital, mentoring the next generation of physicians with the same warmth and excellence she brought to her patients.
Her care extended far beyond hospital walls. Stacey participated in medical missions in Malawi, Africa, and Siberia, Russia, bringing healing and hope to children and families in need across the globe.
In addition to her career in medicine, Stacey loved to travel, visiting much of the world in her short time here. She was an avid photographer, an aspiring artist, a die-hard Mississippi State Bulldog fan, and mother to two cats (Bonnie and Rhys Jones), and her corgi, Sir Waffles.
Stacey will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her dedication to service, and the way she made every child feel seen, valued, and loved. Her life’s work leaves a legacy of compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
May her memory be eternal.
A celebration of Stacey’s life will be held at Bryan Hall (3880 Buford Ellington Rd. Grand Junction, TN) on the Ames Plantation on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with visitation at 2:00 p.m. and a service at 3:00 p.m.
