Duetroe Burnett of Toone, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
The husband of Dorothy Pirtle Burnett, who survives, he was a mechanic for Burnett Brothers Garage, a School Bus driver for 14 years, and a gunsmith. He was born in Hardeman County August 13, 1915 to the late Lushios Edmon Burnett and Eliza Kaytie Cooper Burnett and served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, receiving the Purple Heart and participating in the Battle of the Bulge, serving under General Patton. He was an avid hunter and woodsman and thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors. Mr. Burnett was a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, whom he married, July 4, 1936, survivors include one daughter, Brenda Kennon of Toone; one son, Larry Burnett of Toone; two brothers, Lushios Edmon Burnett of Toone and G.W. Burnett of Millington; three grandchildren, Dwayne Burnett, Vickie Burnett, and Michael Morgan; two great grandchildren, Bethany Burnett and Jakob Burnett.
