Durell Burks was born July 5, 1928 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late Herbert and Lillie Mae White Cunningham.
She was united in marriage to Bartee Burks on January 17, 1950. Mr. Burks preceded her in death on January 29, 1986.
Mrs. Burks worked for ASCS office in Selmer for 25 years and then worked for the Department of Human Services for over 25 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Selmer, Tennessee. She was an independent- Christian-hard working-Southern lady whom loved her family, church family and fur babies. She was devoted to caring for her family and thought the world of her great grandson, Brody. A lot of her time was spent gardening, doing yard work and setting fire to piles of leaves. She controlled her fires with her garden hose and rake and never bothered getting a burn permit.
She had a beautiful smile that matched her heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Burks departed this life on March 14, 2017 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 88 Years, 8 Months, 9 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Butler and husband Elvis of Selmer, TN; grandson, Brandon Butler and wife Ashley of Ramer, TN; granddaughter, Blair Butler of Selmer, TN; a great grandson, Brody Butler of Ramer, TN; niece, Redda Gray of Selmer, TN. nephew, Larry Berry of Chandler, AZ; and a host of cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Burks was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Young.
