E. J. FRANKS, SR.
was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on August 4, 1932 the son of the late Turner William and Lillian Lee Fox Franks.
Mr. Franks was united in marriage to Peggy J. Horton, who survives.
Mr. Franks served in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and the 82th Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he retired in 1972. Mr. Franks served 3 tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He also served his country with tours of duty in Germany, Lebanon and Hawaii.
After retiring from the Army he worked for Southern Energy in Addison, Alabama and Mr. Franks was formerly Park Host at Bruton Branch State Park for several years, which he truly loved. Mr. Franks was former captain of Tennessee Defense Force in Savannah. He loved camping, boating and fishing with his special friend from Summertown.
Mr. Franks departed this life on January 16, 2011 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 12 days.
In addition to his wife, Peggy of Savannah, Tennessee, he is survived by 4 daughters, Pamela L. Vickery of Savannah, Tennessee, Karen Goessling of Cordova, Tennessee, Sharon Phillips of Lexington, Tennessee and Pat Zimmer of Nashville, Tennessee
3 sons, E. J. Franks, Jr., Darryl Shelby and Ronnie Franks, all of Savannah, Tennessee
13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren
one sister, Peggy J. Pontius of Elkhart, Indiana
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Holloway.
