He was born in McNairy County, TN the son of the late Woodrow and Bertha Moore Pickett. He lived at Enville all of his life. He drove a truck and worked as a mechanic, operating his own Radiator Repair and Machine Shop. He later returned to trucking. He was married to Bessie Whittimore in 1979. He was employed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation as a mechanic in the Jackson office and retired from the State after 25 years of service. He was a Baptist in belief. He was an avid deer and rabbit hunter and enjoyed horse shoes.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Pickett of Enville; daughters, Brenda Pickett of Henderson, Midge Petty and husband Eric of Henderson, Tammy Jones of Henderson, Lesa Jones and husband Eddie of Henderson, Betty Hawkins, Gayle Daines and husband Daniel and Kay Sweat all of Enville and a son, Gene A. Pickett of Henderson and step children, Rose Clayton of Covington and Wayne McKenzie of Enville; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carolyn Johnson of West Memphis, AR, Freda Alexander and Glenda Alexander both of Milledgeville and two brothers, Quay Pickett of Henderson and Terry Lynn Pickett of Milledgeville.
