EARLIS JOHNSON



Smyrna, TN: Earlis Johnson, age 82, died Friday evening August 24, 2012 at the Mayfield Rehab and Special Care Center in Smyrna, TN.



Mr. Johnson was born at Huron, TN and grew up in Chester County, the Laster Community, the son of the late Euther Artemus and Nora Rebecca Jordan Johnson Tart. He graduated from the Lions Club School for the Blind in Little Rock, AR. He married Barbara Ann Bridgewater in 1956. They made their home in Memphis for 26 years where he worked for Tennessee Business Enterprise for the Blind #393. They moved to Nashville and he continued in the same business operating snack bars and vending machines for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Johnson was one of the longest serving participants in the TBE Program with over 56 years of service, retiring earlier this year. He was a member of Ellendale Church of Christ in Memphis.



He is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Bridgewater Johnson of Smyrna, five sons; Earlis “Butch” Johnson, Jr. of Smyrna Bruce Johnson of Little Rock, Ronald Johnson of Lexington, Tommy Johnson of Smyrna, and Tim Durham of Smyrna and two daughters; Missi Leebrick of Smyrna and Norma Dunham of Smyrna, 14 grandchildren and one nephew Dr. Jerry Jones of Parsons.



He was preceded in death by two brothers; Cleo Johnson and Berlin Johnson and one sister Dorothy Jones.



Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Bro. Randy Hart officiating and burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.



The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday and from noon Monday until 2:00 PM.
