Edna Faye Newman, 87, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2020. Born to the late Richard Oliver and Mary Feddye Washburn Gilliam on May 27, 1933 in Henderson, TN. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1951 and married John Paul Newman of Jack’s Creek, TN in 1954 becoming a Navy wife. They moved several times over the years, landing in Orange Park, FL in the early 1970’s and finally settling in Green Cove Springs in 1980.
She was a member of Hibernia Baptist Church in Fleming Island, FL.
She dedicated her life to her family, loved to spend time outdoors in nature, working in her yard and tending her flowers. She also enjoyed going to church, Bible study, sewing, and spending time with friends. She was always known to have peppermints somewhere nearby and had a special place in her heart for animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Paul Newman, four brothers and four sisters: Mary Jewell Hearn, Harrod Percy Gilliam, Opal Inez Gilliam, Addie Vernell Barham, Richard Oliver Gilliam, Jr., Benny Jessie Gilliam, Mildred Lucille Morris, and Joe Dennis Gilliam all of Tennessee.
She is survived by one loving daughter, JoAnna Willams and her favorite son-in-law, Daron of Opelika, AL, two grandsons, Alexander and Andrew plus numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Center Hill Wright Road, Reagan, TN 38368.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson – Crook Avenue Chapel with Jerry Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery at Reagan, TN.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue beginning at 10 AM Saturday.
