E.J. Hughes was born November 5, 1930 in Hardin County, TN the son of the late David M. and Allie V. Stratton Hughes. He was one of eight children.
He was united in marriage to Luzell Marshall on July 12, 1952.
Mr. Hughes served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a "jack of all trades" and throughout the years he was: co-owner of Western Auto in Counce, TN, did construction work, farmed cattle and row crops, and later retiring from PCA of Counce, TN after 37 years of service.
He was a wonderful husband, provider for his family, uncle and friend. He loved his family and his community. He was caring, energetic, hardworking and giving. He gave of his time to help at Adamsville Elementary where his wife worked for 47 years. He always made sure all students could go on field trips and did so because he loved children.
He enjoyed learning and his hobbies were various. He loved photography and spending time developing pictures. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Adamsville, TN, Masonic Lodge of Adamsville, TN and Eastern Star #330.
Mr. Hughes departed this life on October 11, 2015 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 84 Years, 11 Months, 6 Days. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Luzell Hughes of Adamsville, TN; a sister, Camillia Littlefield of Adamsville, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by six brothers, Raymond, Denvard, Arsaline, Eugene, Ovie, and Paige Hughes.
