Elbert Copeland Newton

Elbert Copeland (Bubba) Newton was born December 28, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi the son of the late James Milo and Ethel Irene Henry Newton.



He was united in marriage to Maggie Faye Henry on May 23, 1959. Mrs. Newton preceded him in death on March 19, 2007, after 47 years of marriage.



Mr. Newton served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning to the States, he attended Jackson State Community College to study air conditioning. He worked for Owens-Corning in Jackson, Tennessee as a heating/air conditioning supervisor for approximately 13 years. Mr. Newton then opened Newton Service Company, which he operated for several years. His last five years of employment were with Arlington Developmental Services, where he worked in the maintenance department. Mr. Newton was a member of the Refuge church of Christ. He enjoyed playing poker, attending his grandchildren's ball games, and going to wrestling matches.



Mr. Newton departed this life on September 28, 2010 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee at the age of 75 Years, 9 Months. He is survived by two daughters, Penny Shelton and Vicky Gray, both of Bethel Springs, TN; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Sue Dicus of Big Sandy, TN and Pat Loyd of New Market, AL; a brother, Joe (Fig) Newton of Pinson, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.



In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Newton was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Bradley Newton, and two half-brothers, James Elbert Newton and Glenn Franklin Newton.
