Elizabeth "Liz" Cherry Isbell, 80, of Bolivar, departed this life Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The wife of Paul Isbell, who survives, she worked as a registered nurse with Western Mental Health Institute for 34 years prior to retiring. After her retirement, she worked part time for Pro-Care as an RN. She was born June 16, 1936 in Crockett County, daughter of the late Robert "Uncle Bob" Cherry and Bessie "Aunt Bess" Malugeon Cherry and lived there until moving to Hardeman County in 1957. She was a 1957 graduate of Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis and married Paul Isbell on May 23, 1958. She enjoyed reading, working as a caregiver, gardening, and especially looked forward to attending the local "Hee Haw" performances, going every year except this year. She was a well-traveled person, going on many trips with her cousin, Jane Brasfield Carnel, often being referred to as "Thelma and Louise", and her closest sister friend, Joyce Phillips. Known as an exceptionally good cook, she loved preparing meals for her family, whom she adored dearly. Mrs. Isbell was a member of First Christian Church in Alamo.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Dana Blackwell and Laurie Fawcett (Mac) all of Bolivar and Nan Sultan (John) of Vaiden, MS; 8 grandchildren, Hayden Dugger (Sandy), Laura Kate Blackwell, Laramie and Lisa Russell, Thomas Fawcett (Loren), Maxwell Fawcett, Bridget Marlar (Josh) and Paul Martin Burcham (Bethany); 8 great grandchildren; her first cousin, Jane Brasfield Carnel and her close friend, Joyce Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis Reed Cherry and William Hugh Cherry. Memorial donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate). Following the interment, family and friends are requested to meet at the Marjorie Young Life Center next door to the First Methodist Church in Bolivar.
