Ella Smith Clayton

Ella Smith Clayton was born December 9, 1925 in Waynesboro, TN the daughter of the late Sherley A. and Hatti B. Dixon Smith. Mrs. Clayton departed this life on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 90 Years, 19 Days. June 1, 1941 she was married to Ernest C. Clayton who preceded her in death October 13, 1968. She was retired from Genesco after working for almost 30 years. Mrs. Clayton was a member of First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

She is survived by a son, Teddy Clayton and wife Patricia, a daughter, Shirley Staggs and husband Thomas all of Waynesboro, TN, 13 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by a son, Edgar E. (buddy) Clayton, a daughter, Patricia C. Clark, an infant Homewood grandson, six brothers, William, Walker, Floyd, WInfred, Franklin, and Joel Smith, two sisters, Pauline Ramsey and Mary Ruth Hawkin.

Services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee with Casey Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Alan Clayton, Kevin Clayton, Ernie Clayton, Trey Clayton, Chris Staggs, and Junior Homewood.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00-9:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
