Ellis Edward Ayers

Ellis Edward Ayers of Iron City, TN was born February 28, 1929 in Collinwood, TN, the son of the late Earnest Jewell and Bessie Lee Scott Ayers. He was united in marriage to Lillie V. Littleton on December 23, 1955.



Mr. Ayers was a retired carpenter from Hensley Construction and was a Protestant of the Freewill Baptist Faith. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.



Mr. Ayers departed this life on Sunday, April 7, 2013at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 84 Years, 1 Month, 10 Days.



He is survived by his wife, Lillie V. Litleton Ayers of Iron City, TN; a son, Wade Matthews and wife, Lynn of Spring Hill, TN; two grandchildren, Eddie Matthews and wife, Alicia, and Eric Matthews; two great-grandchildren, Addisonand Neyland Matthews; two brothers, Deward Ayers of Waynesboro, TN, Buford Ayers of Collinwood, TN; four sisters, Faye Stooksberry of Collinwood, TN, Fleeta Holt of Iron City, TN, Betty Ruth Johnson of Ethridge, TN, Edith Graham of Collinwood, TN; several nieces and nephews.



In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by two brothers, Elza and Lavern Ayers and two infant siblings.



Services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Collinwood, TN with Edward Burbank and Tim Hanback officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Railroad Cemetery, Iron City, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Junior Cook, Tommy Beckham, Danny Roberson, Ricky Jackson, James Putman, and Don Hale. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie and Eric Matthews.
