Elsie Houston Johnson
Henderson: Elsie Louise Anderson Houston Johnson, age 90, passed away Saturday afternoon June 17, 2017 at Henderson Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Johnson was born and reared in Panola County, Mississippi near Batesville, the daughter of the late Lewis Monroe and Ruth Dees Anderson and raised by her father and step-mother Mozelle Massey Anderson. She graduated from high school in Panola County and married James R. Houston in 1947. They made their home in Memphis where Mr. Houston was an insurance salesman and Mrs. Elsie a homemaker. She later worked at Dinstuhls Candy Shoppes. She was a charter member of the Knight Arnold Church of Christ while in Memphis. Mr. Houston died in 1987.
She moved to Henderson in 1996 to make her home with her daughter. She married J. W. Johnson in 1999. He preceded in death. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ. She loved her family and loved working in flowers.
She is survived by a daughter Anita Houston Weekley and husband John of Henderson and a son Phillip Wayne Houston of Memphis, two step-daughters Sylvia Harris of Henderson and Sue Cole of Finger, a step-son Dennis Johnson of Hendersonville, a brother Jim Anderson of Gatlinburg, four grandchildren; Bryan Houston, Phillip Houston, Chad Weekley and Melanie Weekley Shelton, and eight grandchildren; Brenna Houston, Brooke, Lane, and Emily Kate Weekley, Presley and Payton Rhodes, and Mac and Myles Shelton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands James R. Houston and J. W. Johnson, a son James Edward Houston and a granddaughter Amy Houston.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday at Shackelford – Casey Chapel with David Looney officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis at 2:00 PM Monday with Barry Grider officiating.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday.
