Elvis Mathis was born February 25, 1941 in Waynesboro, Tennessee, the son of the late James Herbert and Inez Skelton Mathis. He was united in marriage to Mable Ray Horton on July 8, 1982.
He was a retired material cutter at Genesco/Texas Boot in Waynesboro and a former member of the Wayne County Bridle and Saddle Club.
Mr. Mathis departed this life on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 67 Years, 9 Months, 1 Day.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by a brother, James Fay Mathis.
He is survived by his wife Mable Ray Horton Mathis of Waynesboro, TN; a daughter, Melissa (Missie) (Mathis) Woods and husband, Lance Wade of Florence, AL; a son, Mitchell Horton and wife Charity of Waynesboro, TN; four grandchildren, Samantha and Tessa Woods and Lucas and Jayden Horton; three brothers, Rex Mathis and Bobby Mathis both of Waynesboro, TN, Gary Mathis of Lawrenceburg, TN; stepmother, Clara Mathis of Waynesboro, TN; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Bobbie Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing. Pallbearers will be Denny Coffey, Robert Skimehorne, Robert Mathis, Kyle Mathis, Kevin Mathis, Jerry Ray.
Visitation will be Friday, November 28, 2008 from 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturday, November 29, 2008 from 8 am until service time at the funeral home.
