Ernest Ray Mitchell

Ernest Ray Mitchell, 89, passed away peacefully holding his beloved wife's hand at Methodist
Hospice Residence in Memphis, Tennessee on April 12, 2023. He was born September 15,
1933 in McNairy County, Tennessee to the late Ernest Wade Mitchell and Sadie Ray Henson
Mitchell. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a retired employee of Memphis Light,
Gas, and Water. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee. He served
as a deacon at both First Baptist and previously at Skyview Baptist Church in Memphis,
Tennessee. Through the good and the bad, he was a faithful fan of the Memphis Tigers and St.
Louis Cardinals. His hobbies included watching sports and Westerns, sitting out and enjoying
nature, and tending to his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Tinker Mitchell, of Collierville, Tennessee. His
one and only daughter, Donna Mitchell Garrison (Greg), of Myrtle, Mississippi. His two
grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Garrison, and, Rachel Leah Garrison, both of Myrtle, Mississippi.
His two brothers, Virgil Mitchell, of Henderson, Kentucky, and, Fred Mitchell (Peggy), of
Savannah, Tennessee. His one sister, Jeannetta Riley, of Lexington, Kentucky. He is also
survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Edward Mitchell, and, Lloyd
Thomas Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Greg Garrison, Matthew Garrison, Fred Mitchell, Jerry Mitchell, Rodney Mitchell, and Matthew Stephens.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 17, 2023 at Collierville First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 17, 2023 at Collierville First Baptist Church
with Bro. Chuck Herring officiating.

The graveside ceremony will be held at Mt. Gilead Baptist Cemetery in Bethel Springs,
Tennessee at 3:00 P.M. following the funeral.
