ESTHER HURST HOWELL
Memphis, TN: Esther Hurst Howell age 90 passed away March 1, 2017 at her “second” home in the Hickory Corner Community of Chester County.
She was born March 14, 1926 Chester County, the daughter of the late Ervin Young and Hestella Davidson Hurst. She graduated from Chester County High School. She married William Henry ‘Jack’ Howell in 1945. They moved to Memphis in 1954. She received her nursing degree in the 70’s and worked as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Central in Memphis. She loved to bowl and was an avid University of Memphis basketball fan.
Mrs. Howell is survived by a grandson, Anthony Howell (Noelle) of Memphis; her son’s soulmate, Laura Madsen of Memphis and two step grandsons, Brent Madsen, Jr of Memphis and Andrew Madsen (Dani) of Fort Hood, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Howell October 13, 2000, and a son, Sammy Howell two days prior.
Joint funeral services for Esther Hurst Howell and her son Sammy Howell will be 11:00 AM Saturday March 4, 2017 at Little Hatchie Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Steve Leggett and Elder Doyle Hurst officiating. Burial will follow for both, with Military Honors for Sammy, in the Little Hatchie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM on Friday and beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Church.
