Eva Mae Johnson Clapp, age 102, of Savannah, Tennessee, formerly of Greensburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and a life richly lived.
Eva was born on July 7, 1923, in Indianapolis , Indiana, to Duard Lawrence Johnson and Bertha Emma (Williams) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delbert Leslie Clapp, whom she married on July 17, 1942, and who passed away in June 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers and three sisters; her son, Ivan Clapp; daughters-in-law Joanne McGrew and Jeanne Braunwarth; and her grandson, Scott Clapp.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Bonnie Spurgeon (Gary), Larry Steven Clapp (Sandy), and Stanley Clapp (Theresa); daughter-in-law Rebecca Wiley; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of cherished extended family members, neighbors, and dear friends.
Eva lived a full and vibrant life spanning more than a century. As a young woman, she fondly recalled her days as a high school cheerleader, caring for her Aunt Mae, and proudly serving her country as a “Bomb Girl” during World War II, working at Stewart-Warner in Indianapolis, IN. After her children went to school, she worked for many years at G.E.-Wellman, retiring in the late 1970s.
In retirement, Eva and Delbert enjoyed spending winters in Kissimmee and Davenport, Florida, embracing the “snowbird” lifestyle. She also treasured traveling to beautiful destinations including Hawaii, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, and beyond.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Eva loved Jesus deeply, read her Bible daily, and faithfully prayed for countless family members and friends. She attended Star Baptist Church, and she was a faithful member of the Missionary Aid Society there. She also attended Riverview Baptist Church, Savannah during her stay in Tennessee. She expressed her love through her kitchen as well, becoming known as a wonderful cook who delighted in teaching her daughters-in-law and grandchildren how to make her delicious pies.
Eva’s many hobbies reflected her creativity and joy for life. She enjoyed ceramics, stamping, quilting, collecting paperweights, playing Euchre, reading, and working word search puzzles. She found happiness in both simple pleasures and meaningful connections.
Eva Mae Johnson Clapp will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her warm and generous spirit, and the deep love she shared with all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful testament to devotion, resilience, and grace.
The family would like to thank Arden Hospice, especially Alexa and Katelyn, for their wonderful help and support.
