Eva Jean Pope (Dickey) passed away peacefully in her home on July 12, 2026, in Waynesboro at the age of 83. Born December 3, 1942, Eva Jean lived a life marked by devotion to her family and steadfast kindness to those around her.
She was the beloved daughter of Lige Dickey and Evelyn Whitten Dickey, both of whom preceded her in death. Eva Jean was homemaker where she was often found canning, cooking and tending to her garden and flowers. Eva Jean worked approximately 20 years as a Teacher's Aide at Waynesboro Elementary School.
Eva Jean's heart was rooted in the family she cherished. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Pope, with whom she shared many years of companionship and commitment. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family whose bonds endure as her living legacy.
Eva Jean is survived by her devoted children: Jennifer Pope Morris (Jason), Bryan Pope (Joy Beth), and Bart Pope (Amy). She was a treasured sister to Patricia Meek, Neal Dickey, and Paul Dickey. The memory of her brothers, Ronal Edward Dickey and Don Dickey, and Daughter in Law Lindsay Mathis Pope, is held close by all who knew them.
A proud grandmother, Eva Jean's love extended to her grandchildren: Haley Sanders, Braden Morris, Lily Pope, Ruby Pope, Jake Pope, Boston Pope, Brandon Pope, Grace Dollar, Reyna Prince, Star Prince, and Braxton Butler. Her influence and affection also reached her great-grandchildren: Oliver Sanders, Paisleigh Morris and Leia Dollar. In their smiles and laughter, Eva Jean's gentle spirit lives on.
Eva Jean's kindness, strength, and compassion defined her relationships and touched countless lives. She will be remembered for her unwavering support, sense of humor, and the wisdom she so freely shared. Family gatherings were her joy, and her presence brought warmth and unity to every occasion.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors, 104 West Hill Street, Waynesboro, TN 38485. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors. Eva Jean Pope will be laid to rest at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County, State Hwy 99, Waynesboro, TN 38485.
