EVALEE AUSTIN GURLEY
was born November 11, 1911 in Hardin County, Tennessee, daughter of the late Waymon Reese and Callie Thomas Austin.
She was united in marriage to Orlando B. (Red) Gurley on May 7, 1941 and he preceded his wife in death on August 12, 1971.
Mrs. Gurley was a retired School Teacher. She taught at the Park Avenue Elementary School in Milam, Tennessee and North Elementary in Savannah.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Bethel College. She also attended Memphis State and Freed Hardeman College.
She was a member of Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Gurley was a world traveler, Sunday School Teacher, Author and poet.
She wrote a book named Journey of the Heart. She was a loving caregiver.
She represented Hardin County in Nashville, Tennessee at the Tennessee Bicentenial Celebration in 1996.
Mrs. Gurley departed this life November 29, 2009 in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 98 years, and 18 days.
She leaves a sister, Lola Austin Roberts and her husband Lewis E. of
the Nixon Community.
One stepdaughter, Louise Sweat of Tupelo, Mississippi.
Mrs. Gurley was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Sylvia Green, Virgie White, Thelma Matthews, Lyla Moore and Edith Lay and 2 brothers, Roy and Glen Austin.
