Evelyn Maxine Brooks

June 17, 1935 — April 6, 2012

Mrs. Brooks departed this life on Friday afternoon, April 6, 2012, at the Allenbrooke Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Memphis.



A native of Middleton, she was the daughter of the late Jim Lee May and Velma Blackwell May. She spent her early life in the Middleton area, having lived for seven years in Orlando, Florida before moving to Memphis in 1982. She was married to John Robert Brooks for 18 years prior to his death in 1984. She worked for Fred P. Gattas Stores as a Jewelry and Silverware salesperson. Also, she was a dedicated caregiver to many sick individuals throughout her life. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Laconia.



She leaves one son, James Bledsoe of Memphis; two sisters, Betty German of Toone and Patsy Pitts of Memphis; one brother, James May of Holly Springs, MS; two grandchildren, Jennifer Ayers and Gregory Bledsoe, both of Asheville, NC; and 5 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her long-time loving friend, Jerald Davis and his family of Memphis.



In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Demetra Stice and Lucille Gullick; and one brother, Johnny May.
